A burlesque and showgirl costume & accessories line in our retail area by Lucy Morals. Level 2 – Layering – Here belly dancers will discover a structured concept of layering upper and lower body movements. In addition, students will develop deeper body awareness, strength, flexibility, and coordination through a yoga focused warm up, which will include breathing techniques to further dance development. Students will learn to fuse belly dance with patterns common to other forms of dance including jazz, modern, ballet, break dancing, tribal fusion, and Salimpour Format. Challenging dance combos will be taught, and the art of finger cymbals will be explored. This class is recommended for students with at least one year of belly dance classes. Jenna is a certified yoga instructor, as well as certified Level 1 in Suhaila Salimpour's Certification program. In addition, Jenna was a member of Suhaila’s Repertoire Ensemble. She has has trained with many amazing artists such as Rachel Brice, Sabriye Tekbilek, Rebecca Vasile, Andrea Sendek, Moria Chappell, Kami Liddle, and more. For the last 7 years, Jenna has been teaching belly dance and yoga, performing, developing choreographies, designing costumes, and organizing variety shows. Currently, she teaches belly dance training at Plaza. About Miriam: Miriam Grill is a seasoned San Francisco Lindy Hop & Blues dancer. Miriam recently completed an intense Lindy Hop dance tour of the U.S. East Coast where she was competing, training and dancing with some of the best swing dancers in the country…she’s looking forward to bringing some of the excitement and energy she picked up along the way to these classes! Miriam was a recent finalist in the 2011 Boogie by the Bay Lindy Jack & Jill division and won the Solo Blues division. March 17th, Saturday Khaleeji dance 101: True culture and tradition: 12pm-1:30pm “Khaleeji” to refer to the style of dance and music from the Persian Gulf or Arabian Gulf region, the “Khaleej,” including Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE. The dance is largely improvisational, performed by pairs or groups of women for their own entertainment at special celebrations, such as weddings. As this dance represents many countries of the Gulf region, Khadijah will instruct proper costuming, musicality, posture, history and background and much more! Iraqi Folklore and more! 1:30pm-3pm Coming from gulf culture; her love of the Iraqi culture, as it is close to her own, led her to study Iraqi Qawliyah (Gypsy) style, a dance that involves head spinning, jumping and shimmies to the rhythm of Chobi/ Kashabah style music. Iraqy “gypsy” style dance called “Qawliyah” (Kaw-LEE-AAH) is one of the MANY beautiful,strong, free and proud dances of the Iraqi women, men feel free to join the fun! If time permit I will dive in to Chobi (line dances and it variations)! These dances are very athletic; please bring a water bottle, a towel to wipe the sweat and dance slippers or socks!
